The following is a brief professional profile of the core architects, associated with this practice, prior to DStudio. Gabe CHONG
Gabe Chong is a registered architect, designer and project leader with 30+ years experience in the private sector. He is a graduate of the University of Newcastle, NSW with an Honours degree in architecture, two university awards and a postgraduate degree in digital media.
Gabe commenced as an architectural and structural draftsman during university. From the outset, he took the view that knowledge gained at university lectures is no substitute for real world practical experience; a view he still maintains today. For this reason, Gabe coaches graduate architects and drafters in the project teams he leads. Furthermore, he actively mentors and tutors tertiary students in practical architecture, design and building construction.
Gabe completed his degree in 1987 and subsequently attained his architect’s accreditation and registration in 1990. During his career, Gabe’s exposure has been with residential, seniors living, commercial, leisure and hospitality projects. Most noteworthy are projects like upmarket waterfront homes; apartment towers; and international hotels and resorts. Yet others are health spas, marinas, foreshore civic park developments, crisis housing, clubhouses, office buildings, bank branches and medical surgeries. Some were high profile projects.
While others specialise, Gabe’s goal was to perform capably throughout the spectrum of what an architect does. In other words, he undertakes conceptual design, design development, working drawings and specifications, and contract administration. At the same time, he manages project teams; often multi-disciplinary in composition.

Above all, his satisfaction is due to the privilege of serving on those projects as the Project/Lead Architect; or in a senior capacity. David MISKELL
With the aim of broadening and diversifying our expertise and operational base, this practice works in close collaboration with David Miskell; a gifted and talented architect highly regarded by his peers. This collaborative synergy has been in place since our inception and results in the best outcomes for our clients.
David is an alumni of the University of Sydney, having graduated in architecture in the 1980s. As an architect and building designer, he has extensive experience in the private and local government sectors. This exposure has been in Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and northern NSW, among other areas. As a result, his professional profile is wide-ranging and includes projects ranging from small custom residential to multi-million dollar beachfront apartments as well as commercial buildings.
David counts as former employers organisations like the Brisbane City Council, DBI Design and Pacific Projects Group, based on the Gold Coast. It was while at DBI Design and PPG that David gained broader and in-depth experience in medium and large scale projects. Since relocating to Brisbane in 2000, he has completed many niche and upmarket market residential, and commercial projects. Moreover, David is experienced in taverns, bars, gaming rooms and club projects requiring liquor and gaming machine licensing.
An intuitive and creative thinker, David is consequently able to transform a client’s brief accurately and sensitively into creative designs. Especially relevant is his ability to reach the best compromise between Form and Function. In other words, the optimum balance between cost and benefit. David is a dedicated professional devoted to his calling. Most of all, David is exceedingly personable, approachable and – as many of our clients will attest – a wonderfully down-to-earth person to work with.
